Israeli tests reveal each bottle of Heinz ketchup contains only 21% tomato concentrate. The other major ingredients are sugar and corn syrup.

  1. We shouldn’t be surprised, I guess. The corporate behemoths which control our food supply have only one motive – profits at all costs. Instead of eating fake food, why not make your own? I’m no fan of ketchup, but it’s easy to make. Just cook some fresh tomatoes (homegrown, of course) with a little salt, sugar, and vinegar… and, voilà – ketchup!

  2. Who would have thought? Next ‘tasty cheese’ will be on the chopping board. We never buy those commercial tomato sauces or any sauce really. We make our own.
    I once found a bottle of ketchup years old, still in perfect condition which told me it must have weed killer or some other strong residual herbicide or fungicide mixed in.

  3. Good point, Gerard. There is immense pleasure to be had in growing and preparing your own food – it’s such a great pity that so many young people have totally missed out on this experience.
