  1. Why we are not glowing in the dark, is a complete mystery to me. I was shocked to learn that flying for 7 hours is equivalent to having an x-ray. Add to that the fact that many people are x-rayed before they are even allowed to board a plane. Add to that the fact that many of us have had multiple x-rays and CT scans and like I stated, why we are not glowing in the dark is a mystery. I certainly should be and I’m not bragging. I’m just saying seeing as how I’ve been x-rayed and CT scanned too many times to count in recent years because of that car accident I keep going on and on about.

I also wonder do you recall a few years ago when we were told that meat was getting radiated to remove bacteria. I wonder is this still taking place? If so, another reason to stop eating meat or at least cut down on eating it, especially here in the states.

  2. Well, I for one don’t go through any TSA xray machines at the airport. Supposedly the TSA can now legally deny you the right to opt out (and go for a pat down instead). However my experience has been that the agents have enough experience with early dementia that they take one look at me and decide not to risk it. I was totally shocked on one trip to have a 7 mos pregnant woman standing behind me in the line – there is absolutely no warning for pregnant of potential fetal damage from xrays. I informed her of the risk and she waited with me for a pat down.

I also refuse dental xrays now because my dentist refuses to invest in a thyroid collar to protect against thyroid cancer.

The thing about ionizing radiation is that the effect is cumulative – every exposure you can avoid reduces your cancer risk.

    • Dr. Bramhall, when I was boarding a plane from Minnesota to Maryland, I got a pat down. I was literally wheeled in a wheelchair to TSA and they asked me if I could stand up without using my walker and of course I said no and so a pat down, it was.

I cannot believe that they are giving pregnant women, x-rays. And why should you have to be the one to tell her that it was not beneficial to her unborn baby to go through with the x-ray? She didn’t know that? What is wrong with people? The first thing you learn when you are pregnant is not to get x-rayed. It’s posted all over the place. Good on you that you feigned dementia while I feigned an inability to walk. Got us on the plane, did it not? Indeed it did!
