Brazil to Mandate COVID Shots for Children as Young as 6 Months

By  Michael Nevradakis, Ph.D.

The new policy will take effect in 2024, despite growing opposition among Brazilians and testimony by experts highlighting concerns about the safety of COVID-19 vaccines for children and increased incidences of myocarditis, pericarditis and other conditions among young vaccinated individuals.

Despite these concerns, which were addressed in a recent hearing before Brazil’s Chamber of Deputies and by several opposition lawmakers, Brazilian Minister of Health Nísia Trindade defended the new policy, while the Brazilian government said families of unvaccinated children will not receive support from the Bolsa Família welfare program.

In addition to the COVID-19 vaccine mandate for young children, a bill under consideration by the Brazilian Senate would establish vaccination centers in the country’s schools.

Brazilian government claims new policy aligned with WHO recommendations

According to Brasil 61, the PNI will require three doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. The first two doses will be administered four weeks apart, while the third dose will be administered eight weeks after the second dose.

Brazilian newspaper O Dia reported that the COVID-19 vaccines that will be available to children include Pfizer’s pediatric formulation for children 6 months to 5 years of age and the Chinese-made CoronaVac (Sinovac) vaccine.

The decision to mandate the COVID-19 vaccine for young children “was taken on the basis of global scientific evidence and epidemiological data of cases and deaths from the disease in the country,” O Dia reported.

According to O Globo, Trindade cited an increase in cases of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) among children in Brazil as a factor that led to the new policy.

Trindade said over 3,000 cases of SARS were identified in children under age 1, and more than 1,000 cases were reported in children ages 1-4.

“The [Health] Ministry also explained that it follows the guidance of the World Health Organization (WHO), which in March of this year recommended that immunization be a priority for the high-risk population, such as people with significant comorbidities, including children 6 months or older,” O Dia reported.

According to CNN Brasil, the COVID-19 vaccine also will be prioritized for other “high-risk” groups, including the elderly, immunocompromised, the permanently disabled, pregnant and postpartum women, health workers, those with comorbidities, Indigenous peoples, residents of long-term care facilities, the homeless, the incarcerated and prison staff.

“In Brazil, we have slightly expanded the group compared to WHO’s recommendations, which are more limited,” said Ethel Maciel, secretary of health surveillance for the Brazilian Ministry of Health.

Health officials claim young kids are ‘at risk’

The Brazilian government and several Brazilian media outlets cited a high number of COVID-19-related deaths among children in the country as a justification for the measure, and the fact that, according to Maciel, “more than 60 countries” have already authorized the vaccination of children from the end of 2021.

“We already have very robust evidence that indicates the safety and effectiveness of the vaccine,” Maciel said. “In Brazil, we had 4,000 people dying every day from COVID-19. Today, we have 42. This is the greatest evidence of the effectiveness of the vaccine.”

O Globo reported that “In 2022, Brazil recorded one death per day among children aged 6 months to 5 years due to COVID-19.”

Infectious disease specialist Dr. Francisco Cardoso told The Defender, “The Brazilian government’s proposal is to include, as mandatory, annual vaccination for COVID-19 in the age group from 6 months to 5 years of age, claiming that they are at-risk groups.”

“The addition of this rule to the PNI calendar makes this rule mandatory, except only in cases of medical certificates with express contraindication,” Cardoso said.

Other experts who spoke with The Defender questioned the new policy.

Dr. Pierre Kory, president and chief medical officer of the Front Line COVID-19 Critical Care Alliance, said, “There is no medical justification for a healthy child to be vaccinated for COVID-19 as it represents near nil risk of death or disability to the vast majority while almost all have natural immunity which is as or more protective.”

Parents of unvaccinated children would be stripped of welfare payments

Compliance with the PNI and the new COVID-19 vaccination requirement will be a prerequisite for participation in the “Bolsa Família,” Brazil’s social welfare program.

According to O Dia, “The Bolsa Família Program, created in October 2003, in the first government of [current President] Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva … exists to guarantee basic income for Brazilians and Brazilians in poverty.”

Receipt of the monthly benefit of R$600 (approximately $100), is contingent on families complying “with commitments in the areas of health and education, to strengthen access to their basic social rights,” O Dia reported, adding:

“One of the conditionalities for receiving the benefit is the follow-up of the national vaccination schedule, in addition to the prenatal period, school attendance minimum 60% for children from 4 to 5 years, among other criteria.

“Therefore, with the COVID-19 vaccine included in the national immunization calendar, it is mandatory that families benefited by the program vaccinate children against the disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus.”

Gazeta Do Povo reported that “With the obligation, not vaccinating children could result in fines and loss of social benefits, such as Bolsa Família.”

According to Brazil’s Federal Nursing Council, parents began receiving an additional R$150 (approximately $30) per child each month if they comply with school attendance and vaccination requirements.

Brazilian lawmakers hear testimony from experts about lack of vaccine safety

Opposition lawmaker Bia Kicis on Nov. 21 organized a hearing in the country’s Chamber of Deputies, during which several health experts from around the world testified.

The hearing sought to “discuss the obligation to vaccinate children from 6 months to 5 years of age against COVID,” with “the presence of experts … for clarification about mandatory vaccination in children.”

Cardiologist Dr. Peter McCullough told The Defender his testimony “advised that COVID-19 vaccines cause fatal heart damage and a host of other side effects,” and that they are “unsafe for use in children.”

Kory, who also testified, remotely, before Brazilian lawmakers and health officials, said he stressed that “COVID-19 was and remains a highly preventable and treatable illness. There is no medical justification for mandating any vaccine for COVID-19.”

“It is now widely known that the medical evidence on safe and widely available treatments for COVID-19 using repurposed drugs was intentionally suppressed by government agencies and medical authorities,” he added.

McCullough stressed the dangers of myocarditis in his testimony, telling the committee that prior to the pandemic, “myocarditis [was] an infrequent clinical concern and it was an infrequent clinical diagnosis.”

“The COVID-19 vaccines, mRNA and adenoviral DNA vaccines go to the heart,” McCullough said. “They produce spike protein. The spike protein causes inflammation and damage in the human heart. And this is shown with the most detailed necropsy and autopsy studies,” he said, adding that “vaccine-induced myocarditis is common and has no initial symptoms.”

Similarly, Kory told The Defender, “Much of the currently available data raise serious warning signals regarding the rates of myocarditis, as well as the massive spikes in excess mortality measured across the world coincident with the vaccination campaign.”

In her testimony during the Nov. 21 hearing, immunologist and biochemist Jessica Rose, Ph.D., said, “Myocarditis is notoriously being reported in young children in the context of these shots following dose two,” noting that there is “evidence of causation” and that there has been a “fourfold increase in reporting [of myocarditis] in boys.”

Rose also cited data from the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS).

“The average number of adverse events reported for all vaccines combined historically for the past 30 years in VAERS is approximately 39,000,” she said, adding that for the COVID-19 vaccine, “the number of adverse events in VAERS for children aged zero through 18 is just over 75,000 in the context of the COVID-19 shots alone.”

The toxicity and lethality of the vaccine platform is unprecedented,” Kory told The Defender. “Mandating that children must receive the vaccine before this data can be fully analyzed creates an unnecessary risk to their health. We simply do not know enough about the COVID-19 vaccines to require them in the name of public health.”

“Let’s hope the Brazilians make the right decision to keep their children safe and unvaccinated for COVID-19,” McCullough said.

NZ Vaccine Data Whistleblower “Drops Truth Bombs” in First Interview Following Release From Prison.

Patricia Harrity

Barry Young was a data administrator for the Ministry of Health in New Zealand (NZ) and had access to many people’s vaccination data. He turned whistleblower on the 30th of November, due to his concern with what the statistics were showing. By Saturday his alarming disclosure went viral worldwide and on Sunday his home was surrounded by police, his home was raided and finally he was arrested. The NZ government was said to have been “left scrambling” to cover this event up by limiting media coverage in New Zealand and even claiming they have injunctions to prevent all internet providers sharing this data release.

Mr Young appeared in court on Monday the 4th of December, where he received “rapturous” applause from many supporters who packed out the court gallery. He, however, was not released on bail but was held in an NZ prison for a second night and only released on Tuesday.

The New Zealand government is claiming and charging Barry Young with ‘accessing a computer system for “dishonest purposes’, but, he says he has done nothing dishonest. and according to CounterSpinMedia, “This data was carefully analysed, anonymised, and time shifted to prevent personal information from being released into the public domain. The data has already been handed over to a multitude of research organisations and is reportedly the best trove of official government data on the COVID scandal released so far.”

“The people of New Zealand, and the world, are thanking the Whistleblower, Barry Young, (formerly known as Winston Smith), for his courage in releasing this data, to the wider public for full scrutiny.” according to CounterSpinMedia, who add “Of course, New Zealand’s own pixie dust fairy princess, Jacinda Ardern is at the centre of this travesty, and as she cut and ran from New Zealand politics to lead a global attack on free speech and truth in the media, she will be campaigning for even greater “misinformation” restrictions to cover her own slimy steps.”

Liz Gunn lawyer/investigative journalist who helped Barry Young expose that the COVID vaccination data was causing mass deaths, is staying in a safe house in New Zealand. She gives a major update on the Alex Jones Show.

December Update on Corona Committee Lawyer Reiner Fuellmich.

By Patricia Harrity

Update – Distinguished lawyer Reiner Fuellmich is still in prison 6 weeks after being arrested. Dr Fuellmich, known for his involvement in high-profile legal cases is a key figure in the Corona Investigative Committee, which he has dedicated the last few years to due to his scrutinising of the corporate agenda surrounding the Covid plandemic.

On October 13, 2023, Dr Fuellmich was apprehended at the German consulate in Tijuana, Mexico, where he was escorted to Germany and subsequently arrested. There is speculation, that Reiner Fuellmich was arrested in an attempt to deliberately silence him and put a stop to any Corona Committee legal proceedings, termed Nuremberg 2, and of course, this has succeeded.

However, there are allegations centered on Fuellmich “misappropriating funds” as the managing director of the “Corona Committee Foundation,” which over the years has garnered significant donations from the global COVID “truther” movement.

The Gottingen, public prosecutor’s office in Germany, has accused Fuellmich of diverting funds intended for the foundation’s mission and that disturbing evidence pointed to substantial transfers from the foundation’s accounts into the personal accounts of his wife Inka.

Allegedly among these transactions was a series of 20 transactions with payments totaling €200,000 to Inka in November 2020 and another alleged transaction involving €500,000 reportedly occurred in May of the following year.

These charges implicated Fuellmich in financial misconduct and have cast a shadow over his role as a global figure in the COVID investigation and quite clearly the arrest and legal proceedings will have been a pivotal moment in his legal career.

The uncertainty surrounding the allegations has left his future in legal circles shrouded in ambiguity, with repercussions for both his reputation and professional standing, according to author Utsav Shrestha who cited German site Tagesspiegel for the above information.

Many readers have shown concern for him and the Expose has attempted to keep everyone updated on his situation whenever there has been any news.

November 27th – Still in Prison – Still Strong

Before the arrest of Reiner Fuellmich, Roger Bittel of Biettel Tv aired a one-hour summary from him. Now he does a “ThoughtSending for Reiner Fuellmich.” He keeps the time and space free for Reiner Fuellmich, and a few thousand people are there live every time” according to lawyer/friend Elsa Scheider.

Roger Bittel shared the following update on the 27th of November.

“He is doing well considering the circumstances.
He has become more sensitive, but he is still strong!
He has now received a mechanical typewriter.
He will comment on all the allegations.
He is very happy to receive mail from people.
He has noticed that a few people hold a vigil outside the prison every Thursday and Saturday at 11 a.m. with banners saying “Thank you, Reiner, for your work for the Corona Committee” and “Freedom for Reiner Fuellmich”.
It does him a lot of good to know that people are thinking of him and have not forgotten him. “

Bittel said that he has an idea for his next sending. “By next week Dr. Reiner Fuellmich will have been a prisoner for 49 days!  He can’t get used to the idea – and many thousands of other people can’t get used to the idea either! On the one hand, it is enough to bring one to tears. On the other hand, he keeps telling himself over and over again: “It is all supposed to be so!  Who knows what it’s good for…” Source

December 3rd and Six Weeks in Prison

Yesterday there was a message published from Reiner, which was read by Roger Bittel on bittel.tv on Sunday night. In German: www.youtube.com/watch?v=I8asxqlFWl0 From 5:00 to 7:40.)

English translation of the Message From Reiner Fuellmich

Hello everyone,

After six weeks of imprisonment, I would like to deeply thank all the people who write to me. There are thousands. I read everything. Everything in those letters from appreciation of the quality of the work done and above all the positive energy sent to me is a rescue boat that will bring me to freedom so we can continue to bring forward our joint work. Because it isn’t over.

The corona pandemic was only the test run to find out what people will go along with when we put them into panic through psycho-terror. We must look behind the panic propaganda, so we can see the truth. Without justice there is no peace and no returning to a humane world.

That also holds for my case.

Today for the first time I want to address the charges against me that are meant to damage my international reputation as a lawyer but also me as a person. I will together with my legal team ensure that the full truth comes to light, and that those who have done this are brought to justice.

I will go into the background of everything and show how the money from the sale of the house of myself and my wife were simply taken from us – that is, our entire financial existence was taken and that is how the entire Mexican plot was created which led to my arrest and much more.

I thank all of you,

Reiner Fuellmich

Elsa has also met Reiner’s wife Inka, who she says is “faced with a situation very difficult for her in more ways than one.” “There is the enormous emotional difficulty of having her amazing husband in prison in Germany at a time when freedom-fighters are ever more under attack.

Some readers may be interested in what Reiners wife has to say: Elsa transcribed the conversation that she had with, Inka, which is published below.

INKA FUELLMICH:

“On October, 12, Reiner and I flew to Tijuana to pick up our passports and visas. This had been arranged by the consulate. We were supposed to be met at the airport by the consul. Here is what happened.

I happen to be sitting in the second row at the front of the airplane. Reiner is sitting at the back. So I get off the plane pretty quickly. There are 6 uniformed men right at the gate, Four men from the National Guard and two from the immigration authorities. They let me pass almost unnoticed. I have the crazy hope that they can’t be waiting for us. Maybe someone with drugs or something similar.

I stand a little to one side and wait, my heart in my throat. Nothing can happen, I think. We are safe here. We have an appointment with the consul directly at the airport. Everything has been officially reported and planned.

As soon as Reiner steps out of the gate, the uniformed men start moving, seem to have a photo of him. They walk toward him and I know. Nothing is the same now. Now it’s happened. There’s nothing I can do.

They all together come to me as well and we are led wordlessly into the immigration office. We wait. I just manage to make one phone call before a man says: “There’s something wrong with your visa. We’re taking you to the main office now.”

Our explanations that we should get new passports here and that everything is in order are not of interest.  With blue lights on the vehicle and a second escort vehicle, we are taken through the traffic jam to the other end of the city, where officials are already waiting for us.

All personal belongings are taken from us without explanation. In addition, there are fingerprints and signatures on several papers in Spanish. No interpreter. We ask to call the embassy, in a last attempt to clarify the situation.

The call confirms that nothing here is happening by chance. A translator arrives and explains that there is a problem in Germany. They will take my husband to Mexico City immediately and he will be flown, accompanied, from there to Germany.

There is no more talk of passports or visas. We are allowed to say goodbye briefly and then all of a sudden he is gone. What’s happening here? And there’s nothing I can do. A large room. A man in handcuffs and lots of tattoos is being led away. I’m wearing a light dress and flip-flops. The interpreter tells me that I’m going to stay here for now. A woman takes me into the cell and I walk in circles on cold gray tiles.

There’s a camera on the ceiling,
1 water bottle with a paper cup,
1 rubber mattress on the dirty floor,
a heat protection foil for the night,
toothpaste, but no washbasin,
a metal toilet, clogged and overflowing.

After a few hours, a guard comes, tells me I’ll be released the next day, and leaves a tray of food. I think: better than in a German hospital and am a little relieved. Just hang in there, everything will clear up and then everything will be fine again! It gets calmer during the night. Breathing exercises. A television is on. It’s cold. New arrivals come in from time to time, picked up at the border.

Fewer and fewer people are fleeing México for the USA. On the walls are the names of people from Georgia, Brazil and Venezuela.

When the doors slam, I startle, afraid that my door will be opened. The next morning I await my release. After 2 hours I ask and someone says: In the afternoon. It’s the afternoon. The food for the evening is brought. The guard says: Hey German, you have to eat. For us Mexicans, a good full belly is very important. Then I cry – suddenly I lose hope.

But after a while, there are voices at the main entrance. The boss is back from work that evening. Very polite, personal, almost apologetic. I’m taken from the cell to the front. “You can go now.”

I sign papers again. They show me a photo of my husband at the airport in México City. In handcuffs between 2 men. He looks so tired. Then I can leave. And only now, 4 weeks later, I am able to write about it. These things are happening now to many people. It is our present. Betrayal? Slander? Aiding and abetting?

Love, hope and blessing for all people who are and remain strong, who are there for others and support them.

I would like to thank all the people who have accompanied us for over 3 years, who have written to us and shared their worries and fears, who stood up and simply do not stop.

Thank you very much,

Inka”

[…]

It would be of no real surprise to us all that the allegations made against Dr Fuellmich were, as he says, meant to damage his international reputation as a lawyer and a person. He had the admiration of so many people who followed and supported him as he uncovered the truth through the collated evidence of many experts worldwide.

The hope was that he would eventually bring the perpetrators of the evil Covid plan to justice, but his imprisonment would certainly be a successful tactic to put an end to his aim.

Dr Fuellmich said recently, “I will together with my legal team ensure that the full truth comes to light and that those who have done this are brought to justice” We can only hope this will come to fruition.

US House speaker issues Ukraine ultimatum to Biden

RT

Getting the Republican-majority House of Representatives to approve additional funding for Ukraine would require first securing the US border with Mexico as part of the deal, Speaker Mike Johnson told the White House on Tuesday.

The Louisiana Republican was responding to Monday’s public letter from Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Director Shalanda Young, who warned that the US was “out of money—and nearly out of time” in terms of aid to Ukraine and Israel. Young argued that cutting off US aid would “kneecap Ukraine on the battlefield” and increase the “likelihood of Russian military victories.”

Johnson first addressed Israel, noting that the House had approved the Israel Security Supplemental Appropriations Act (HR 6126) on November 2, but that Democrats who control the Senate “voted to block consideration of the bill.”

As for Ukraine, Johnson wrote, the Republican position has remained unchanged since his meeting with Young and National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan on October 26, when he laid out “two essential prerequisites: security at our border, and critical answers regarding the funds requested.”

Six days prior, President Joe Biden had announced the proposal to bundle the funding for Israel, Ukraine, Taiwan and immigration and border enforcement in a $106 billion package, of which about $60 billion would go to Kiev.

Additional funding for Ukraine is “dependent upon enactment of transformative change to our nation’s border security laws,” Johnson wrote on Tuesday. The House passed the Secure the Border Act of 2023 (HR 2), “more than six months ago,” he noted, but the Senate Democrats have “refused to act” on it.

Pointing to over 6.5 million “illegal alien encounters” along the southern US border since Biden took office, of which 294 involved people “on the terrorist watchlist,” Johnson called the situation “an unconscionable and unsustainable catastrophe.”

In addition to “madness” on the border, Johnson noted that the White House still owed Congress “a full accounting of how prior US military and humanitarian aid” to Ukraine was spent “and an explanation of the president’s strategy to ensure an accelerated path to victory.” He accused Biden of “failure thus far to present clearly defined objectives,” and to provide Kiev the weapons it needed on time.

“Rather than engaging with Congressional Republicans to discuss logical reforms, the Biden Administration has ignored reality, choosing instead to engage in political posturing,” the House speaker said.

Talks on a border security bill in the Senate collapsed earlier in the day, as Democrats denounced the Republican proposal as “extreme,” claiming it would “end asylum as we know it.”

The Etruscan Role in Introducing Written Language to Europe

Episode 11 Etruscan Homes

The Mysterious Etruscans

Dr Steven L Tuck (2016)

Film Review

The Etruscans adopted the Greek alphabet* to their spoken language around 700 BC and were instrumental in spreading written language throughout Europe. Etruscan was last spoken around the 1st century AD and the last published Etruscan text was an appeal to attack the barbarians who were invading Rome.

Etrucan is the only non-IndoEuropean language that survives from ancient Italy. Archeologists have discovered roughly 13,000 Etruscan texts. There are all religious, commercial, political (mainly records of popular assembly deliberations); educational documents or captions for images and sculptures and geologies inscribed on tombs. The Etruscans only shared stories and poems orally.

The Etruscan language was “inflected” like Latin and Greek, which meant words had different endings depending on their use in a sentence. Etruscan documents were writing on terra cotta slabs, gold and bronze plaques. Legal contracts were written on either bronze or stone (which was often melted down to be used elsewhere).

The Romans, who learned to write from the Etruscans, spread their written language across Europe. Celtic script and the Germanic Rume alphabet (used between 150-1100 AD) are also derived from Etruscan. German speakers adopted the Roman alphabet around 1100 AD.

Written Etruscan was a kind of shorthand. Etruscan texts were meant to be read outloud and embellished by the reader.

Linguists learned to decipher Etruscan from bilingual Latin/Etruscan documents. However there are still numerous Etruscan words yet to be deciphered.

*The Greeks derived their alphabetic from the Phoenicians, the first Western civilization to develop alphabetic writing. The first Greek documents are written from right to left, like the Phoenician language. Etruscan was adopted from the Greeks before they began writing from left to right.

More Harmful than Mercury, ‘Forever Chemicals’ Found in Freshwater Fish

pfas chemicals freshwater fish feature

By Hannah Norman

Bill Eisenman has always fished. “Growing up, we ate whatever we caught — catfish, carp, freshwater drum,” he said. “That was the only real source of fish in our diet as a family, and we ate a lot of it.”

Today, a branch of the Rouge River runs through Eisenman’s property in a suburb north of Detroit. But in recent years, he has been wary about a group of chemicals known as PFAS, also referred to as “forever chemicals,” which don’t break down quickly in the environment and accumulate in soil, water, fish, and our bodies.

The chemicals have spewed from manufacturing plants and landfills into local ecosystems, polluting surface water and groundwater, and the wildlife living there. And hundreds of military bases have been pinpointed as sources of PFAS chemicals leaching into nearby communities.

Researchers, anglers, and environmental activists nationwide worry about the staggering amount of PFAS found in freshwater fish. At least 17 states have issued PFAS-related fish consumption advisories, KFF Health News found, with some warning residents not to eat any fish caught in particular lakes or rivers because of dangerous levels of forever chemicals.

With no federal guidance, what is considered safe to eat varies significantly among states, most of which provide no regulation.

Eating a single serving of freshwater fish can be the equivalent of drinking water contaminated with high levels of PFAS for a month, according to a recent study from the Environmental Working Group, a research and advocacy organization that tracks PFAS. It’s an unsettling revelation, especially for rural, Indigenous, and low-income communities that depend on subsistence fishing. Fish remain a large part of cultural dishes, as well as an otherwise healthy source of protein and omega-3s.

“PFAS in freshwater fish is at such a concentration that for anyone consuming, even infrequently, it would likely be their major source of exposure over the course of the year,” said David Andrews, a co-author of the study and researcher at EWG. “We’re talking thousands of times higher than what’s typically seen in drinking water.”

Dianne Kopec, a researcher and faculty fellow at the University of Maine who studies PFAS and mercury in wildlife, warned that eating fish with high concentrations of PFAS may be more harmful than mercury, which long ago was found to be a neurotoxin most damaging to a developing fetus. The minimal risk level — an estimate of how much a person can eat, drink, or breathe daily without “detectable risk” to health — for PFOS, a common PFAS chemical, is 50 times as low as for methylmercury, the form of mercury that accumulates in fish, according to the federal Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry. But she emphasized, “They’re both really nasty.”

Just like mercury, PFAS bioaccumulate up the food chain, so bigger fish, like largemouth bass, generally contain more chemicals than smaller fish. Mercury is more widespread in Maine, but Kopec said PFAS levels near contamination sources are concerningly high.

‘Fishing Is a Way of Life’

The Ecology Center, an environmental group in Michigan, educates anglers about consumption advisories and related health impacts. But Erica Bloom, its toxics campaign director, noted that for many people out on the river, “fishing is a way of life.”

Eisenman participated in an Ecology Center community-based study published this year, which tested fish from Michigan’s Huron and Rouge rivers for PFAS that poured out from auto and other industry contamination. Across 15 sites, anglers caught 100 fish samples from a dozen species, and what they found scared him.

“There were no sites that registered zero,” said Eisenman, noting that some had significantly higher levels of chemicals than others. “You need to make a value judgment. I’m going to still eat fish, but I don’t know if that’s a good thing.”

Last year, the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine published a sweeping federally funded report that associated PFAS exposure with health effects like decreased response to vaccines, cancer, and low birth weight.

There are thousands of PFAS, or perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances, many of them used to make both household and industrial products stain-resistant or nonstick. They’re in fire-retardant foam used for decades by fire departments and the military, as well as in cookware, water-repellent clothing, carpets, food wrappers, and other consumer goods.

In late October, the EPA added hundreds of PFAS compounds to its list of “chemicals of special concern.” This will require manufacturers to report the presence of those PFAS chemicals in their products — even in small amounts or in mixtures — starting Jan. 1.

About 200 miles north of Detroit, in rural Oscoda, Michigan, state officials have warned against eating fish or deer caught or killed near the former Wurtsmith Air Force Base because of PFAS contamination.

“We have a 9-mile stretch of river system in which the state determined way back in 2012 that it wasn’t safe to even eat a single fish,” said Tony Spaniola, an advocate for communities affected by PFAS. He owns a home across a lake from the shuttered military site.

In Alaska, several lakes are designated catch and release only because of PFAS contamination from firefighting foam. A study by the U.S. Geological Survey and Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection released in August led to a warning to avoid eating fish from the Neshaminy Creek watershed.

Nationwide, use of firefighting foam and other PFAS-loaded products by the Department of Defense alone has led to the contamination of at least 359 military bases and communities that need to be cleaned up, with an additional 248 still under investigation as of June.

But many lakes and streams haven’t been tested for PFAS contamination, and researchers worry far more sites hold fish laced with high levels of PFAS.

Federal efforts to curb PFAS exposure have focused mostly on drinking water. Earlier this year, the EPA proposed the nation’s first PFAS drinking water standards, which would limit contamination from six types of chemicals, with levels for the two most common compounds, PFOA and PFOS, set at 4 parts per trillion.

But the EWG researchers found that one serving of fish can be equivalent to a month’s worth of drinking water contaminated with 48 parts per trillion of PFOS.

Store-bought fish caught in the ocean, like imported Atlantic salmon and canned chunk tuna, appear to have lower PFAS levels, according to FDA research.

A biomonitoring project focused on the San Francisco Bay Area’s Asian and Pacific Islander community measured PFAS levels in the blood and found higher amounts of the compounds compared with national levels. The researchers also surveyed participants about their fish consumption and found that 56% of those who ate locally caught fish did so at least once a month.

Eating a fish’s fillet is often recommended, as it accumulates fewer chemicals than organs or eggs, but many participants reported eating other parts of the fish, too.

California is one of many states with no fish consumption advisories in place for PFAS. Jay Davis, senior scientist at the San Francisco Estuary Institute, said that’s in part because of “limited monitoring dollars” and a priority on legacy chemicals like PCBs as well as mercury left over in particularly high concentrations from gold and mercury mining.

Wesley Smith, a senior toxicologist with California’s Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment, said the state is reviewing the latest scientific literature but needs more data to develop an advisory that is “neither too restrictive nor too permissive.”

States like New Hampshire, Washington, Maine, and New Jersey have some of the most protective guidance, while other states, such as Maryland and Michigan, lag when it comes to designating fish unsafe to eat.

Advisory levels for at-risk groups — such as children and women of childbearing age — are usually lower, while “do not eat” thresholds for the general population range from 25.7 parts per billion in New Hampshire to 300 ppb in Michigan, 408 ppb in Maryland, and 800 ppb in Alabama.

“That’s wicked outdated to have levels that high and consider that safe for folks to eat,” said Kopec, the University of Maine researcher.

Though it is no longer made in the U.S., PFOS remains the most commonly found — and tested for — PFAS chemical in fish today.

The primary maker of PFOS, 3M, announced it would begin phasing the chemical out in 2000. This year, the company said it would pay at least $10.3 billion to settle a class-action lawsuit brought by public water system operators. But in July, attorneys general from 22 states asked the court to reject the settlement, saying it was insufficient to cover the damages.

The military first documented health concerns surrounding PFAS chemicals in the 1970s yet continued to use firefighting foam made with them. Mandated by Congress, the Defense Department was required to stop buying retardant containing PFAS by Oct. 1 and phase it out altogether by 2024. A recently published study linked testicular cancer among military personnel to PFOS.

Tackling Pollution at the Source

Pat Elder, an activist and director of the environmental advocacy group Military Poisons, has tested water for PFAS up and down the East Coast, including in Piscataway Creek, which drains from Joint Base Andrews, the home of Air Force One.

In 2021, after testing fish from Piscataway Creek, Maryland officials released the state’s sole PFAS fish consumption advisory to date. But Elder worries Maryland has not gone far enough to protect its residents.

“People eat the fish from this creek, and it creates an acute health hazard that no one seems to be paying attention to,” Elder said.

Since then, Maryland’s Department of the Environment has conducted more fish monitoring in water bodies near potential PFAS sources, as well as at spots regularly used by subsistence anglers, said spokesperson Jay Apperson. He added that the state plans to put out more advisories based on the results, though declined to give a timeline or share the locations.

Part of the challenge of getting the word out and setting location-specific consumption advisories is that contamination levels vary significantly from lake to lake, as well as species to species, said Brandon Reid, a toxicologist and the manager of Michigan’s Eat Safe Fish program.

Michigan set its screening values for fish consumption advisories in 2014, and the state is in the process of updating them within the next year, Reid said.

Seymour Hersh: Potential Ukraine Peace Negotiated by Generals

Seymour Hersh

It’s been a rough couple of months for President Joe Biden and his feckless foreign policy team. Israel is going its own way in its war against Hamas, with renewed bombing in Gaza, and the American public is bitterly divided, all of which is reflected in polls that continue to be unfavorable to the White House.

Meanwhile, the president and his foreign policy aides have also been left on the outside as serious peace talks between Russia and Ukraine have rapidly gained momentum.

“Everyone in Europe is talking about this”—the peace talks—an American businessman who spent years dealing with high-level Ukrainian diplomatic and military issues in the government told me earlier this week. “But there are lots of questions between a ceasefire and a settlement.” The veteran journalist Anataol Lieven wrote this week that the battlefield situation in Ukraine and thus “a ceasefire and negotiations for a peace settlement are becoming more and more necessary for Ukraine.” He said that it was “exceptionally difficult” for the Ukrainian government headed by Volodymyr Zelensky to agree to talks, given its repeated refusal to negotiate with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The driving force of those talks has not been Washington or Moscow, or Biden or Putin, but instead the two high-ranking generals who run the war, Valery Gerasimov of Russia and Valery Zaluzhny of Ukraine.

Iraqi Resistance Seeks to Expel US Troops from Iraq

The Cradle

The October 2023 war, which kicked off with the Palestinian resistance’s Al-Aqsa Flood operation and Israel’s brutal assault on Gaza, has extended to Baghdad, with Iraqi resistance factions launching drone and missile strikes on US bases after warning Washington to desist in its military support of Tel Aviv.

The US has now responded by targeting Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) headquarters – killing thirteen of its members, injuring countless others, and heightening tensions between Baghdad and Washington.

These strikes inside Iraq have strongly reignited pre-existing calls to expel US military forces from the country. The legal basis for this already exists: in the immediate aftermath of the January 2020 illegal US assassinations of PMU Deputy Leader Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis and Iran’s Quds Force Commander Qassem Soleimani, Iraq’s parliament voted to end the “international coalition” and eject foreign forces from the country.

Safeguarding Iraq’s sovereignty

In September, while in Washington, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani told CNN that “Iraq no longer needs combat forces, whether from the United States or from the rest of the coalition countries,” because ISIS “no longer poses a threat.”

It is a theme that is more frequently being voiced by US officials and think tanks, as in this Carnegie Endowment assessment that illustrates clearly why ISIS cannot make a comeback in either Syria or Iraq. On 15 November, US Senator Rand Paul introduced a Congressional bill to remove US troops from Syria, arguing that Americans “have had enough of endless wars in the Middle East (West Asia).”

“Yet, 900 U.S. troops remain in Syria with no vital U.S. interest at stake, no definition of victory, no exit strategy, and no congressional authorization to be there.”

Iraqi lawmaker Ammar al-Shibli tells The Cradle that, today, “Iraqi security forces can manage any internal or external battle, and there is no longer a need for the presence of US forces, especially after ISIS became a thing of the past.”

Following the US strike on PMU troops – who were Iraq’s frontline forces in nearly all the country’s battles against ISIS – Baghdad has strongly condemned the operation as a “dangerous escalation,” a violation of Iraq’s sovereignty, and a violation of international coalition’s stated mission against ISIS on Iraqi soil.

On 22 November, without directly mentioning the US, government spokesman Bassem al-Awadi, announced that:

“The Iraqi government is solely dedicated to enforcing the law and holding violators accountable, a prerogative exclusively within its purview. No party or foreign agency has the right to assume this role, as it contradicts Iraqi constitutional sovereignty and international law.”

This statement provoked anger amongst political parties and swathes of supporters of the resistance factions, as it did not rise to the level of the actual response to US crimes in Abu Ghraib and Jurf al-Sakhar.

A senior Iraqi official, who declined to be named, tells The Cradle that his government is “being blackmailed by the United States through the US ambassador to Iraq, Alina Romanowski, who has carried several messages from Washington to this effect.”

He says the US has “threatened to cut relations and prevent the arrival of funds — specifically the US dollar — to Iraq,” referring to an economic blockade reminiscent of the one Washington imposed on Iraq between 1991 and 2003.

These threats have been conveyed to political and armed factions either directly or through intermediaries. Some of the Iraqi resistance groups have backed off, but notable factions like Kataib Hizbullah, Ansar Allah al-Wafa, Harakat al-Nujaba, and Kataib Sayyid al-Shuhada have rejected the various ultimatums from Washington.

Mounting calls for US withdrawal

As Iraqi political analyst Ali al-Shammari tells The Cradle, “the so-called international coalition is an American lie to continue suspicious activity to strengthen US influence in the region, and for the Americans to return to Iraq again after their withdrawal in 2011 in implementation of the Strategic Framework Agreement.”

Since 17 October, the Iraqi resistance factions have entered into a very real war against US military forces because of Washington’s support for Israel’s unprecedented and wildly indiscriminate assault on Gaza. The factions have also targeted illegal US troops based in Syria.

On 21 November, in response to a US drone that killed a member of the PMU on the same day, the infamous Ain al-Assad air base in western Iraq was targeted for the first time by a short-range ballistic missile. Later that evening, US forces responded by shelling PMU headquarters in the Jurf al-Sakhar area, southwest of Baghdad.

The bombing of the PMU headquarters has deeply shocked political and popular circles, particularly given the fact that the PMU is part of Iraq’s official security apparatus and operates under the command of the prime minister and commander-in-chief of the country’s armed forces.

The head of the Nebni political coalition and Badr forces commander Hadi al-Amiri has called for the withdrawal of US forces from Iraq “immediately,” telling The Cradle that “the Iraqi parliament’s decision to withdraw US forces in 2020 is clear and not open to interpretation.”

“The will and laws of Iraq must be respected, as there is no longer a legal justification for the presence of these forces. Iraqi forces no longer need foreign training. We have local academies and trainers capable of this. The excuse of advisers is an American lie.”

Moreover, there are legal implications for the international coalition forces in Iraq after the US bombed the PMU barracks. According to law expert Muayad al-Musawi “by bombing an official Iraqi security force, US forces have legally reclassified themselves as invading forces. No occupying power has the right to justify its attacks against a legitimate force that defends its country.”

The resistance will respond

On 22 November, US Central Command in Iraq announced that its forces “conducted discrete precision strikes against two facilities in Iraq. The strikes were in direct response to the attacks against US and Coalition forces by Iran and Iran-backed groups, including the one in Iraq on November 21, which involved the use of close-range ballistic missiles.”

Qais al-Khazali, secretary-general of Asaib Ahl al-Haq, has condemned the “brutal and treacherous” US bombing operation against Iraqi forces and called for legal action against the US military in accordance with international law, the expulsion of their troops from Iraq, and the restoration of full sovereignty over Iraqi airspace – with no immunity for US forces.

Hussein Munis, head of the Rights movement, emphasized that battles against ISIS like Abu Ghraib and Jurf al-Sakhar — which the PMU liberated in 2014, marking the most significant victory against ISIS in Iraq — only serve to highlight the need to end the presence of international coalition forces, particularly US ones, in Iraq. Munis accuses Washington of employing its military as an occupation force that disregards Iraqi sovereignty – one that has transformed Iraq into a battlefield for West Asian rivalries and a regional base from which the US spies on neighboring countries.

The US strikes on the PMU have moved others to take direct action. Saud al-Saadi, a member of parliament for the Rights bloc, has launched a drive to collect signatures for an extraordinary parliamentary session to prosecute the US for its actions in Iraq. He also says it is high time the Iraqi government implemented the parliament’s decision to expel American forces from Iraqi soil.

There is an ugly history of US strikes on Iraqi security forces, including the PMU, that dates back to 2014. Over the next few years, there were dozens of targeted attacks by the international coalition aimed at diminishing Iraqi military capabilities and its weapons stores – whether by bolstering Iraq-based terrorist forces like Al Qaeda and ISIS, or through the direct military targeting of Iraqi security units.

The list of these US and coalition anti-Iraq operations is a long and shocking one, and some bear detailing.

On 19 October, 2014, US warplanes bombed Iraq’s Joint Operations Command and the PMU to prevent them from advancing and clearing out ISIS militants in the areas of Al-Rafoush, Al-Mahasna, and Bustan Al-Chalabi located in the Duwailiba axis, west of Baghdad, killing the regiment commander and eight of his soldiers.

On January 18, 2015, US aircraft bombed the headquarters of the Iraqi Army’s 52nd Brigade with Popular Mobilization gatherings in Baiji, killing 80 fighters and wounding dozens. Two months later, on 12 March, US aircraft targeted the Abu Diab area and raided a position of the Iraqi army’s 14th Division, killing fifty more soldiers and wounding dozens more.

On 6 June, 2016, Adnan al-Shahmani, a former member of parliament for the State of Law political party, revealed that international coalition aircraft targeted the headquarters of the 17th Division and the operations site of one of the PMU in Al-Karma, killing six resistance fighters and wounding eight. Three weeks later, US warplanes bombed a joint security force of the army and tribesmen attacking a gathering of 150 ISIS militants in the Hawija Al-Abar area in the center of Al-Manaseer village, south of Fallujah, killing two soldiers and wounding eight. In Tal Afar, on 24 November, a US drone targeted a PMU meeting at the Tal Afar airport headquarters, causing numerous casualties.

In Anbar, near the Iraqi-Syrian border, units of the PMU’s 14th Brigade affiliated with the Sayyid al-Shuhada Brigades, were directly bombed by the US on 7 August, 2017, killing forty troops and wounding others. On 19 June, 2018, the US airforce struck Kataib Hezbollah quarters on the border with Syria, killing 22 fighters and wounding 12 others.

The targeting escalated in 2018, with the bombing of seven PMF weapons depots, including two in the Najaf Sea on 7 June,  another in the Seyouf area of Babil on 30 June, and a third west of Karbala on 6 August. The year ended with the targeting of a warehouse in Dujail, south of Salahuddin, on 19 September, and another in Tuz Khurmatu on 2 October. In 2019, shelling targeted Muzna in Baiji district on 6 June, and another near Balad Air Base on 20 August. The results of the investigation into the incident indicated the involvement of Israeli aircraft in the bombing.

Countries Around the World Begin to Reject the WHO as Deadline Looms

By World Council for Health

After three years of campaigning by the World Council for Health (WCH) and our partners around the world, several countries have recently issued rejection letters or indicated reservations in response to the World Health Organization’s International Health Regulation (IHR) amendments that were adopted in May of last year. The deadline to serve the WHO with notice is 30 November 2023.

Other additional countries have publicly announced an intention to reject the potentially legalised violations of national sovereignty, while still more countries continue to mobilise to protect personal health, freedom and national sovereignty.

While many amendments to the IHR are facing public scrutiny, the most concerning amendment is one that would reduce the number of months countries have to reject IHR amendments from 18 months to 10 months. This change would make the democratic public participation process even more difficult.

Summary of Country Positions

  • Eleven Members of Parliament in Estonia issued a letter rejecting IHR amendments and the proposed pandemic treaty.
  • New Zealand’s new coalition government will reserve against proposed amendments to IHR.
  • Slovakia’s prime minister announced the government will not support strengthening the WHO.
  • A comprehensive bill by a congressman is gaining traction and public support in the Philippines.
  • Two South African parliamentarians champion the WHO Withdrawal Bill and mobilise on it.
  • A Parliamentarian in the Netherlands filed a letter making a reservation due to lack of due process.
  • Eleven European Union parliamentarians are formally challenging procedural failures in IHR amendments.
  • Bill HR 79 (to defund and exit WHO) was introduced by United States Congressman Andy Biggs.
  • Parliamentarians continue advocating to reject IHR amendments and question the WHO in Japan.
  • A letter from the Australian people communicates rejection of the WHO’s proposed amendments to the IHR.

WCH Country Councils Take a Stand

The World Council for Health’s twenty-six decentralized Country Councils continue to mobilise against the IHR amendments and the proposed new pandemic treaty. They are also working to withdraw from the WHO and instead work directly with each other for a healthier, more peaceful and self-sufficient world. As a result, these sovereign countries will no longer be influenced by the unelected and undemocratic WHO, keeping them safe from ineffective, harmful and costly lockdowns, and free from ties to Big Pharma and other profiteers.

To understand how conflicts of interest affect the WHO’s ability to make decisions, please see the documentary, Trust WHO.

Call to Action

If your organization or country’s leaders would like to engage WCH on why states worldwide should reject the upcoming 2024 amendments to the International Health Regulations (IHR) and the proposed Pandemic Accord please contact policy@worldcouncilforhealth.org.

Man accused of vaccine data breach to be bailed Tuesday

Barry Young appears in Wellington District Court.
A man accused of dishonestly accessing Te Whatu Ora Health New Zealand vaccination data will be bailed tomorrow.

Barry Young, 56, is charged with accessing a computer system for dishonest purposes. He didn’t enter a plea when he appeared in the Wellington District Court today.

He was arrested yesterday after the health ministry laid a complaint with police following the alleged “unauthorised disclosure and misuse of data by one of its staff members”, chief executive Margie Apa said.

It’s alleged the data was published on an overseas website.

Te Whatu Ora said the data appeared to be anonymised. It had been granted an injunction by the Employment Relations Authority preventing publication of the data.

After appearing before Judge Andrew Nicholls this morning, Young was ordered to reappear this afternoon so bail could be discussed. He was granted bail from 1pm tomorrow.

‘Extremely concerning’ – Health Minister responds

In a statement, Health Minister Shane Reti told 1News while the incident is an “operational and staffing matter for Te Whatu Ora”, the allegations are “extremely concerning”.

The man’s actions have left Te Whatu Ora scrambling to reassure the public the Covid-19 vaccine is safe. (Source: 1News)

“I have made my expectations clear that it must be treated very seriously,” he said.

Reti said he had been briefed on the matter by Apa and her senior leaders, “including over the weekend”.

“The security of health data is of utmost importance. I have requested reassurance around the robustness of the health data protection services, and Te Whatu Ora will report back to me on the results of their investigation,” he said.

“Any suggestion that health data is being misused or misinterpreted on this scale is extremely concerning.”

Reti also requested for support to be made available to the health providers named in the claims.

He continued: “There are many conspiracy theorists out there who unfortunately disseminate harmful disinformation, however as Minister and as a physician, the public can and should continue to have confidence in vaccines.

“I am reassured by experts confirming that there is no evidence supporting the allegations that have been made.”
