The Republican Party candidates running for the upcoming House and Senate elections in the United States are increasingly distancing themselves from Donald Trump as the approval ratings of the president continue to fall because of issues like the failed aggression against Iran and its impacts on the US economy.
A Tuesday report published on the website of Newsweek showed that more Republican lawmakers fighting for the November elections are removing images of or references to Trump from their campaign websites.
Newsweek said it had carried out a comparison between current and archived versions of campaign websites using the Wayback Machine, showing that a number of Republican candidates, especially those bracing for tight races, had downplayed their relationship with Trump and his agenda.
The lawmakers studied in the report included Michael Whatley in the North Carolina Senate race, Ohio Senator Jon Husted, Michael Bouchard, running to represent Michigan’s 10th Congressional District, and Florida House candidate Mike Beltran, who have removed Trump’s images and references from their campaign websites.
Newsweek said campaign websites had also wiped references to Trump’s “America First” policy and replaced it with local issues like affordability.
Trump’s approval ratings have dropped to record lows, with many blaming his disastrous handling of the aggression on Iran and its economic impacts for the US for the fall in support for the Republicans.
Political analysts expect the Republican Party to suffer a major defeat in the November elections only because of Trump’s failure in government.
Mike Madrid, a Republican political strategist, told Newsweek that Republicans are openly distancing themselves from Trump because they see more value in it than living with the image and legacy of the US president.
“Trump is now more of a liability than an asset… It’s unprecedented,” he told Newsweek, “and will likely prove devastating in November,” said Madrid.
Well, I for one think they have waited too long to distance themselves from that lunatic. They should have grown a spine and stood up to him long before now. Everyone with more than two brain cells connected and working are well aware that Trump belongs in prison, both he and Kegsbreath! And plenty more I could name.
