Ontario’s Premier Threatens to Cut Off Electricity to U.S.

The premier of Ontario, Doug Ford, has threatened the U.S. over Donald Trump’s plans to impose tariffs on Canadian exports.

After initially putting a hold on his planned tariffs against Canada and Mexico, Trump confirmed this week that he would move forward with plans to 25 percent tariffs on both countries until both countries agreed to his demands surrounding border security.

In an interview on NBC News, Ford said he had never met a single American who supported the idea of tariffs, despite the fact that the majority of Americans voted for Donald Trump.

Ford ranted:

We are the largest purchaser of alcohol in the world. We buy over 3,600 products from 35 states. I talked to the Governor of Kentucky and Mitch McConnell. Don’t touch our bourbon. I’m going after absolutely everything.

And I don’t want to. We keep the lights on for 1.5 million homes in manufacturing in New York, in Michigan, and in Minnesota.

If he wants to destroy our economy and our families, I will shut down the electricity going down to the U.S. And I’m telling you, we will do it.

Ford then went on to say that Americans, particularly those in red states, would feel immense pain as his retaliatory measures.

  1. Sorry, Premier Ford, but I live in a red state that doesn’t depend on Canada’s electricity for manufacturing, but I can say this: when the last hurricane took out the power in the east coast a few months ago, I appreciated Ontario workers’ help to get our grid up and running again.

      • Tube I think it’s some oblique reference to the Bronfman brothers, these Jewish mafia bootleggers that kept the American mafia supplied during Prohibition. I think Ford may have had an attack of verbal diarrhea and then regretted. Which is why his comment about alcohol makes no sense.

        • I don’t think the blowhard Doug Ford has thought this action through. Ontario supplies electricity to about a dozen states but, America supplies electricity to parts of Canada and they could also cut off a large portion of gas and oil that enters Canada from it’s own pipeline back into Ontario. We two countries are too integrated to start a serious tariff war. I don’t think this nonsense will last because of the higher prices both countries will be affected with. The same goes for Mexico. There isn’t a state or province that doesn’t import Mexican fruit and vegetables. I also don’t appreciate the provinces taking American liquor off the shelves. I can’t get my Knob Creek No9 bourbon which I like to sip periodically.
