What makes me wary, Sha’Tara, is when public authorities shift the burden to individuals to solve community problems that only they can adequately address.
If you can be sure that the virus has not caught up with you, excessive hand washing may look silly, however can anyone really be 100% sure that they are actually free of the virus?
Aunty, the issue here in New Zealand is that the government was telling us to wash our hands, not touch our face, and to sneeze into our elbow for nearly a month, when what they should have done was close the borders. In other words, corporate and tourist interests prevailed and many non-New Zealand residents were allowed to enter New Zealand – from countries with high levels of coronavirus infection – without making any effort to assess their health status. The border is closed now. However if it had been closed in a timely way, we could have avoided a shutdown of our economy.
