When a black swan flies over a house of cards: The Coronavirus & global collapse

“Yanis Varoufakis, the former Greek finance minister, once said if you borrow $10,000 from a bank and lose your job, you’re in trouble, but if you borrowed a million dollars, the bank is in trouble. If the coronavirus precipitates a global recession, or worse, what will happen to the $253 trillion in obligations that can’t be paid back?”

February 07, 2020 “Information Clearing House” –  It looks like a very rare bird finally landed on our planet.

Moody’s Analytics called the coronavirus “a Black Swan like no other.” [1] Ditto for Anthony Fauci, Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, who says, “It’s very, very transmissible, and it almost certainly is going to be a pandemic.” [2]

One respected Wall Street analyst said the disease will impact both global supply and demand and ultimately “paralyze China.” [3]

But Wall Street shrugged off these prognostications and is in such a mania of late, it managed to convince itself—on almost no evidence at all— that the virus is curable. Not only has it discounted the pandemic, but its ditzy moods pushed markets to all time highs as if to show its scorn for any intrusion sanity which might otherwise interrupt the…

    • The problem with vaccination, marblenetr, is that it isn’t very effective for fighting viral illnesses. The human body mainly fights off viral infections through cell-mediated immunity (killer cells, etc.), not via antibodies, which is the protection offered by vaccine. The only way to fight viral illnesses like coronavirus at present is through anti-viral and anti-retroviral drugs.

In any case, I think the author of this article avoids the issue of the origin of the virus. He is primarily concerned about the effect of quarantines and travel bans on the global economy.

  1. I predict the corona virus scare will die off without a whimper, just as countless other CDC and FDA food and other scares have done. I guess the WHO is behind this one, and the Trump administration is pulling out all stops to incite a world-wide boycott of China. Part of the “demonize China” movement, which ranks about equally with the “demonize Russia” movement.

Corona virus has been around a very long time and accounts for 10-20 percent of common colds. Maybe this particular strain has been genetically modified, as some bio-warfare believers claim, but the media reports are suspiciously vague. What are “confirmed cases?” How were they confirmed? What are the symptoms? Of the presumed fatalities, what were the victims’ underlying health conditions that might them more susceptible to pulmonary disease?

It seems the so-called health authorities should be taking steps to educate people about susceptibility, if they know, and to admit it if they don’t.

Who profits by this world-wide panic? The mask manufacturers and pharma, which will reap lots of government grants (presumably) to find a vaccine. Wall Street, which loves to exploit every crisis, and to potentiate possible crises. It’s a great government control tactic, both in China and the US. Is this part of the trade war?

If I were China, I would use this opportunity to kick the foreigners out and not let them back in. China doesn’t need the rest of the world and did just fine until the Brits forced their way in with the Opium Wars.

    • Quote: “Of the presumed fatalities, what were the victims’ underlying health conditions that might them more susceptible to pulmonary disease?” That observation is totally apropos. A people’s state or hearth is of paramount importance when discussing communicable diseases.

      • I couldn’t agree more, Sha’Tara. Nutrition levels, especially, are extremely important. This was a major factor in the global deaths caused by the 1918 influenza epidemic. In New Zealand, for example, low income Maori died in much higher numbers than Europeans.

      • Absolutely, and it’s a point that must be stressed over and over, because the money churners and doomsday prophets want to control through making everyone afraid of their own bodies’ abilities to resist disease.

        • This is so true! I had a wonderful evening with a woman who decades ago overcame uterine cancer through a change of lifestyle and some surgery. After she was declared cancer free, she got a call from 2 doctors who wanted to discuss her cancer “condition.” They knew already that she no longer had the cancer but they attempted to brow-beat her, frighten her and get her to undergo more “therapy” in the form of chemo and radiation therapy, two methods she had learned to avoid after watching her best friend die in agony having submitted to these dark age methodology. But it was the fact that these two “doctors” had missed out on a money train and felt cheated. What an interesting story as she had her printed records which contradicted the ones these quacks presented her with. She’d had a solidly diagnosed stage one cancer and these two sharks insisted that she had a stage three cancer and it was still active. They were openly lying and she caught them in it. That was 30 years ago and this woman now 76, has lived a strong and healthy life. Oh, did I mention that I hate doctors about as much as I hate politicians? Money bags, except for rare exceptions. They are trained to run a business in which the health of a patient is secondary to a profitable enterprise and also trained never to become “personal” about a patient. The patient is a means to an end, the end being the entitlement to the big bucks. Doctors killed my mother too – they would have been more charitable if they had just shot her when she trusted them to help her – it would have saved her years of horrible pain ending in suicide.

          • Sha’Tara,
Unfortunately, I agree with you. What’s “billed” as health care today is sadistic. I went into it imagining that it was a path to becoming a “healer,” but quickly learned the “health care industry” profits by keeping people sick and dependent, with government-controlled health-care insurance yet another barrier between patient and compassionate care.

    • I’m not sure who, exactly, is behind the panic over coronavirus, Katherine or what their motives are. Hopefully it will offer a good opportunity to reexamine our over dependence on an unsustainable system of global trade that has companies in the US importing the same products (certain meats, for example) that other unrelated companies are exporting.
