The International Criminal Court’s chief prosecutor Fatou Bensouda announced Friday her intention to launch an investigation into alleged war crimes committed in Israeli-occupied Palestine.
“I am satisfied that there is a reasonable basis to proceed with an investigation into the situation in Palestine,” Bensouda said in a statement. “In brief, I am satisfied that war crimes have been or are being committed in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip,” said Bensouda, adding that “there are no substantial reasons to believe that an investigation would not serve the interests of justice.”

Oh, I can already see the wheels turning to turn any “investigation” into a bottomless quagmire. Nothing “good” ever comes from a bought and paid for bureaucracy. First rule of that game is, CYA!

One big problem. ICC is a kangaroo court. Even if it was legit, U.S. and israel do not subscribe to it.

All this is true. But still I find the move an interesting one. Normally the ICC simply ignores complaints from adversaries of US interests. I wonder if Netanyahu’s election struggle and ongoing prosecution for corruption possibly gives them courage.

I don’t think they found courage. I think it’s just lip service, much ado about nothing. They can’t simply ignore it any longer so they feign empathy and action.
