‘Dickensian diseases’ are on the rise

Despite certain illnesses virtually being eradicated in the 1950s, UK hospital admissions for some “Victorian diseases” have risen by 52% since 2010-11, an increase of over 3,000 admissions a year.

  1. As far as I can see, Gloria, we are entering a new era of devastating infectious diseases. At present it seems to be the poor and malnourished who are predominantly affected, just as it was during Dickens’ times.
