Collapse Is Already Here

“Collapse is a process, not an event. And it’s already underway, all around us. Collapse is already here. However, unlike Hollywood’s vision, the early stages of collapse cause people to cling even tighter to the status quo. Instead of panic in the streets, we simply see more of the same — as those in power do all they can to remain so, while the majority of the public attempts to ignore the growing problems for as long as it possibly can.”

  1. I went to the original post, Stuart, and I reblogged it. 4458 words is a lot to read. But all this examples where we go wrong with our daily consumption, are an eye opener. I believe the only remedy is to curtail our consumption to a sustainable level. 🙂

  2. …and yet another mass murder in Louisiana. And this past Wednesday, 5 people got shot dead inside a bank in Sebring, Florida and I’ve also read that January is breaking records in mass shootings. This is yet another sign of the collapse. While the U.S. is busy staging a coup in another country, Venezuela, the citizens of this one are killing each other left and right. The drug epidemic is out-of-control. Stores are announcing massive layoffs. Even Amazon is laying off permanent workers and that is a bad sign because Amazon has been touted as THE very name in shopping. Walmart is laying people off or is severely cutting their hours.

‘It was like a public execution’: American retail workers face mass layoffs’

“Last week, Foster and dozens of other seasonal and contracted employees at the Amazon clothing plant were laid off along with thousands of other workers at retailers across the U.S. Retailers have just had their best holiday season in six years but for retail workers the post-holiday come down has been brutal.

“They made an announcement we would all take our breaks at the same time. No one thought anything of it,” said Foster. He explained a manager read off a list of names publicly to announce the mass layoffs. “It was a public execution.”

So, as you can see, even Amazon is not immune to the fact that people are not shopping. There is no sense of financial security anywhere. Even the so-called upper class shoppers have cut back and Macy’s is doing poorly as is Nordstrom and the guy in the video is blaming Nordstrom’s troubles on e-commerce. H-E-LLLLOOOO! Did he fail to read the article about the mass layoffs at Amazon before opening his big mouth? Apparently. Since all he need have done was stand outside an Amazon warehouse and watch the workers leave with their walking papers. And yet, Amazon is about to build two more warehouses? What for? So they can stand empty? My guess would be that folks who are at the top at Amazon are just like the other Wall Street players, furiously ignoring what is right in their faces until the water is actually lapping at their heels signalling the sinking of this Titanic they are pretending not to be on.

    The ‘collapse’ is indeed, here!

  3. You’re right, Shelby. The evidence is all around us. I guess that means it’s up to ordinary people to start picking up the pieces – which usually means women because that’s the stuff they’re good at. Like you with your van service.

  4. The collapses are here. No amount of prepping will help, in the face of the nuclear apocolypses happening from multiple meltdowns and fuel fires as reactors fail around th he world
