  1. Privatization of the USPS may seem like a good idea, but what happened to the taxpayer developed cybernetic using public airwaves/cyberwaves should trouble us. Dictatorial control easily developed in the private sector through Google, Apple, Facebook, etc., and it could take place with the USPS privatized. This is all they more obvious when we see what the media information cartel has done so far in controlling our news reports. If anything, use the USPS as a neutral platform for communication that will not restrict access or use because of opinions. Benjamin Franklin created our Post Office, and it has served us well ever since. Come to think of it,our printing of money was written as a responsibility of Congress, and that was privatized; look what happened.

  3. Privatization of public services usually only benefits the people who make immense profits off them. Service is limited to people who can afford to pay, workers (who cease to be unionized) are treated abominably and infrastructure is run down to the point the government has to take the service back and build it up again.

  4. We’ve been down this road with Thatcher in the UK. She thought that a nationalised industry was the reason for poor performance, rather than the real reason: poor management. Get better managers and run the enterprise properly.

  5. Excellent point, Graham. We’ve been through the same privatization debacle here in New Zealand. Here I sense the main purpose of privatization of our railroad, telephone, post office etc was to do away with the unions and reduce wages. It also put a pretty penny in the pockets of banking firms that managed the privatization process. Thanks for your comment.
