Doug, I’ve recently become aware that “heritable” conditions aren’t simply related to genetic issues. That epigenetics (mainly exposure of the fetus to the mother’s stress hormones) and the gut bacteria the fetus inherits from the mother also play an enormous role. I’m aware of numerous cases in which fecal transplants (providing new gut bacteria) can greatly diminish autistic symptoms in young children – especially those with heavy metal poisoning.
