U.S. Negotiates Retreat From Afghanistan

Early this year the U.S. stopped all aid to Pakistan. Even the old Pakistani government was already talking about blocking the logistic line. The incoming prime minister Imran Khan has campaigned for years against the U.S. war on Afghanistan. He very much prefers an alliance with China over any U.S. rapprochement. The U.S. hope is that Pakistan will have to ask the IMF for another bailout and thus come back under Washington’s control. But it is more likely that Imran Khan will ask China for financial help.

    • Interesting point, Shelby. I think for once the US has painted itself into a corner. At present the US is totally reliant on Pakistan to replenish its troops with military and survival supplies and there aren’t any good alternatives. Of the 6 countries that border Afghanistan (Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Pakistan, China, and Iran), there is no way China or Iran are going to allow US military supply lines and the first 3 countries simply don’t have the air bases or road infrastructure to accommodate a military operation.

Imran Khan, the new Pakistani president, has been campaigning against the US occupation of Afghanistan for years – and he particularly opposed the undeclared drone war Obama unleashed on Pakistan. And now that Pakistan can turn to China for funding, there’s no way they’re going to approach the (US-controlled) IMF for refinancing when their foreign loans come due.

      • We must tell many others! Those in MSM, those who believe MSM, and others known to all. We can believe every word spoken or written by DRG, may his tribe, if he has one, increase! If he doesn’t, may he start one and deal with it when they become teenagers.
