In the 1960s the Sugar Research Foundation (SRF) secretly funded research at Harvard to downplay sugar’s possible link to coronary heart disease (CHD). The goal was to shift attention to fats as a greater hazard.

Sugar; more addictive than cocaine, and it’s in nearly everything (generally) processed to eat.

Artificial sugar ( aka sweeteners) is far far worse to consume.

You’re absolutely right about the addiction potential of sugar, Kenneth. While I’m aware that artificial sweeteners are dangerous, I think sugar probably kills more people.

Sugar has also been linked to tooth loss. I know that my dental hygienist in Minnesota wished that she could use my mouth to discourage teens from constantly drinking sodas. I don’t drink soda and I have stopped my consumption of champagne and believe me, that was hard for me to give up as that was my only vice.
I remember when I was growing up, I used to hear the old people say, “He’s got sugar.” They were referring to diabetes. I am wondering if the massive consumption of sugar has a lot to do with the diabetes epidemic in America and other countries. And it is awful that commercials are always showing beverage products loaded with sugar. And poor people are always loading their shopping carts with these super sweet beverages.
But again, I am at a loss in trying to figure out why doctors are not taking a more proactive approach to this serious problem because tooth loss is a huge problem in America especially seeing as how many Americans have no access to dental care and their mouths show this. I actually hate looking into the mouths of many Americans because they are disaster areas. Where is the hue and cry over this? Our physicians are worth shit! And corporations, once again, are not held accountable for basically striving to ruin our health by any and all means necessary.

I, too, despair of western doctors who fail to keep up with the research on the dangerous of high sugar, high carbohydrate, low fat diets.I recently heard a talk by a South African doctor who lost his faculty position and nearly lost his medical license for recommending high fat, low sugar diets – when all the legitimate research is clearly in his favor.
And you make an excellent point about teeth. Maori here in NZ had perfect teeth until they started consuming a western diet.
