How the U.S. can hold its head up as the bastion for justice, equality, freedom, rights and yada, yada, is a complete mystery to me when we read such as this. Teachers, chefs and nurses, by God, should not be living out of their cars or RVs. Although, no one should be homeless in this country, the salaries of those in the health care field should most definitely qualify them for a place to live as much needed as health care workers are and those who teach our children should not be hard pressed to find a home either. I hear tell that even firefighters are having quite the time, even on their salary, trying to live in parts of California and other states that have low housing affordability rates.
People are being deliberately priced out of their homes and it was already bad enough when the subprime mortgage mess rendered millions without their home, thus causing a massive demand for rental housing which then drove up the cost of renting. Folks are literally living on top of each other just to keep a roof over their heads. Entire generations of families are living under one roof because many have had to go back home and take their children with them because they could not afford a place to live. I have said this before and I say it again, “Where we are headed does not bode well for the future and in fact, it suggests that there will be no future for many.” Since homelessness kills. Just ask the folks in California who have now declared a “State of Emergency” there thanks to a Hepatitis A outbreak among the homeless. Pretty soon, we will see diseases like the Black Plague and other diseases that are normally found in Third World countries, killing millions of Americans. This is not by accident. And so what do we do about this? As usual, nothing.

Like you, Shelby, I find all this incredibly disheartening – especially the total absence of integrity or ethical political values in current US leaders. They only serve the interests of America’s ethically challenged billionaires and the pimps who surround them. The result has been a corrupt elite consumed by greed and cruelty whose only concern in life is adding more dollars to their bank account – no matter who suffers as a results.
