US corporations lobby against anti-Russia sanctions

Posted: July 21, 2017 in Uncategorized

A wide range of American conglomerates, including oil, energy, banking, aerospace, auto and heavy manufacturing enterprises have jointly started a lobbying campaign against the new round of sanctions against Russia passed by the US Senate, CNN reports.

BP, ExxonMobil, General Electric, Boeing and Citigroup, MasterCard and Visa are reportedly among the companies raising concerns the punitive measures will ultimately harm their businesses, rather than the Kremlin.

Ford, Dow Chemical, Procter & Gamble, International Paper, Caterpillar, and Cummins have reportedly warned the measure could impact their businesses as well. . .

  1. Hmmm, all of these companies think the sanctions are a bad thing? Maybe they aren’t so bad after all. 🙂

    • From what I see, ashiftinconsciousness, Russia’s local economy is thriving now that they’ve become more self sufficient in food production. And most EU countries are violating the sanctions because they rely on Russia for natural gas.

  2. Of course corporations are going to lobby against sanctions against Russia because those corporations wish to do business with Russia. It’s all about money. Corporations don’t care what problems countries are having with each other, they just want to do business and business equates to making money.

    • Of course this is totally true, Shelby. Ironically, though, these are the same corporations that fund the campaigns of most Republican senators and control their media coverage. In other words these old bald white men in suits face the choice of approving sanctions or kissing their senate careers goodbye. Which choice do you think they will make?

      • You know, Dr. Bramhall, none of this makes any sense because since corporations also back those Republican senators, it does not seem like it would be in their best interest to impose sanctions against Russia seeing as how the very corporations that support them don’t want sanctions. Those senators care not for the attitudes of the American populace on a whole; they care about what is going to continue to fund their lavish lifestyle and why bite the hand that feeds them?

  3. First I want to say that my comment was merely a joking stab at corporate executives (who I despise).

Having said that, I agree with you, Shelby. Executives care about nothing other than their bank accounts. Most of them would willyingly make money on weapons used against their own country as long as they could personally stay out of the firing lines.

Also, I don’t think many GOP politicians care much about what their constituents want or think. They’ve discovered that they can twist GOP voters opinions into anything they want these days.

    • You are SO right! Those who make up the base that support the GOP candidates do so at their own expense. They act as though they don’t depend on the very programs that the republicans despise. The repubs gut the hell out of the programs, i.e. Medicaid, food stamps and welfare assistance and the like that their base actually depend on. It makes no sense to cut your nose off to spite your face, but here, they do it every time.

Those who vote for the GOP politicians know that those GOP assholes have the best of health care while their constituents can all just drop dead, to a one and yet, they will still line up and vote them back in, every single time, without fail and then blame their plight on someone else. There are many who are drinking the tainted Kool-Aid because it would seem that that Kool-Aid has been doused with ‘The Intense Stupid Formula’.

Your comment is right as rain.

      • Part of the reason why this disgusting strategy works is that the general philosophy of conservatives and/or the GOP is based on fear and hate. The GOP voters don’t vote “for”, they vote “against” – against whoever or whatever their masters tell them to vote against. They tell them who to be afraid of and who and what to hate.

        • True again! Will these people ever wake up and think for themselves as opposed to having to be told what to think, when to think it and why to think? It is just mindboggling that so many play the fool most willingly and act as though they cannot see what is so glaringly obvious. As I often say, “I despair OF US!”
