Can’t solar panels be easily fried? Have Faraday cages been developed for them? I am for those things, but protection of the national grid is affordable while it’s loss will be unaffordable.

Actually, marblencltr, I’m a big fan of local distributed energy and giving ordinary people more say in how energy is produced and how much they pay for it. So long as we focus on maintaining a national grid, corporate power companies are going to control the energy we depend on and we will continue to have no input. According to Nick Rosen in Off the Grid, the whole idea of developing a national grid had nothing to do with efficient energy delivery (grids are notoriously inefficient – in most cases 10% or more of the energy produced is lost in transmission). Starting a national grid was seen by Edison (and GE – the company he founded) as a way of increasing energy consumption and profits.

NOW LET US GET BACK TO THE ‘BASICS’, FIRST OF ALL IF THEY WOULD ALLOW MORE RENEWABLES AND RELIED ON WHAT THE HEAVENLY FATHER YAHVEH GAVE US THE SUN, THERE WOULD BE LESS GRID TO PROTECT. LET ME ASK THE QUESTION, HOW CAN YOU BOMB THE SUN??? THEY BETTER NOT TRY IF THEY KNOW WHAT IS GOOD FOR THEM!!!

Futuret, I honestly don’t think supporting renewable energy has anything to do with left or people. I see support across the political spectrum for it.
