During his political campaign, Donald Trump repeatedly railed against Wall Street with a specific focus on Goldman Sachs. In the final days of his campaign, Trump released an advertisement (see video below) that featured his opponent, Hillary Clinton, shaking hands with Goldman Sachs CEO Lloyd Blankfein. As the image flickers on the screen, Trump does a voice over, stating: “”It’s a global power structure that is responsible for the economic decisions that have robbed our working class, stripped our country of its wealth, and put that money into the pockets of a handful of large corporations and political entities.” As the ad ends, Trump bares his soul: “I’m doing this for the people and for the movement and we will take back this country for you and we will make America great again.”

How did a candidate who repeatedly demonized Goldman Sachs as the poster child for a corrupt establishment that owned Washington end up with Goldman Sachs’ progeny filling every post that even tangentially has the odor of money or global finance? One answer is family ties; another may be something darker.

Trump’s non-stop nominations and appointments of Goldman Sachs alumni have left his supporters stunned. Trump nominated Steven Mnuchin, a 17-year veteran of Goldman Sachs to be his Treasury Secretary. Stephen Bannon, another former Goldman Sachs banker, was named by Trump as his Chief Strategist in the White House. The sitting President of Goldman Sachs, Gary Cohn, has been named by Trump as Director of the National Economic Council, which, according to its website, coordinates “policy-making for domestic and international economic issues.” Last week, in a move that stunned even Wall Street, Trump nominated a Goldman Sachs outside lawyer, Jay Clayton of Sullivan & Cromwell, to serve as Wall Street’s top cop as Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission. Adding to the slap in the face to Trump’s working class supporters, Clayton’s wife currently works as a Vice President at Goldman Sachs. . .

    • Corporate elites – of whom the majority are non-Jews – run the world. I think it’s important to stay focused on the need to dismantle post-industrial capitalism and not get sidetracked by CIA disinformation efforts to scapegoat Jews.

      • Why then the centuries long historical narrative, prior to the creation of the CIA, and the inordinate, disproportionate and pervasive deleterious influence of this group on American and European politics and Banking? Is the scapegoating stratagem by the Elites a backpocket free pass for the non -jew in the event of a revolution?

        • The CIA is new but it has borrowed centuries of highly successful ethnic and racial scapegoating to keep the working class divided. To answer your final question, all types of racial and ethnic scapegoating give the Elites a backpocket free pass – as well as defeating genuine organizing efforts to increase individual self-respect and collective mass self-confidence and assertiveness.

        • Pedophilia, like rape and domestic violence, is as old as patriarchy and male privilege and definitely not limited to a single ethnic or religious group. The CIA and Mossad, like all global intelligence agencies, are and always have been bastions of male privilege. If women ever achieved true liberation from all the unpaid labor they provide, capitalism would collapse – and the elites have always known this.

    With almost daily announcements by industrial multinationals stating that they are keeping plants here in the U.S., Goldman Sachs must have an alternate view of how Wall Street is going to thrive. Since 1980 the U.S. GNP and stock market have been fueled by globalization and cheap labor. Goldman will have to go back to a pre-1980 model of building a middle class.

    • The main problem I see, PeaceFrog, is that under federal securities law, Goldman Sachs is obliged to place their shareholders’ interest above all other concerns. That will remain the case until the Republican Congress repeals the law. I find this very unlikely, as Goldman Sachs (with their campaign contributions and control of the corporate media) holds most of Congress by the balls. I personally oppose all Wall Street banks using their wealth and power to control the US government – there needs to be a law making this illegal. This really should be the first reform Trump enacts. However with him appointing so many Goldman Sachs bankers to his cabinet this seems highly unlikely.

And btw, branding him with corruption doesn’t entail he is…its just your opinion. In the culture of the business world, you can’t get ahead without dodginess. Business by its very nature is corrupt. No matter what one says as a debate for the Don, people purely on the other side of the fence will run him down…and go search for such crazy speculative evidence based on fear and loathing. All this Wall Street pandering… To me it looks like he is carrying on with establishment business as usual… What is perplexing is, why they are trying so hard to get rid of him??… Seems like he is collecting the right cards, to play in their game… Seems like they would be thrilled to have him on board…

    • Good question, lozzafun. The best explanation I’ve read is that there is a split in the ruling elite over Trump’s foreign policy (mainly the future of Russia and Russian oil) and the future of the myriad of intelligence agencies. There has been some talk by the Trump team of vastly downsizing and rationalizing US intelligence. At present, the main war seems to be between Trump and the CIA. I confess to having fantasies of Trump abolishing the CIA – just that feat alone would make the whole nightmare of the 2016 election worthwhile.

    • Thanks for the link, Save the World. I, too, would like to see a more “moral” world, I honestly don’t think this is possible under industrial capitalism. By law, corporations are required not to consider morals – but only the financial interests of their shareholders. And so long as Wall Street is running the government in Washington DC, it seems to me the government will be just as corrupt as Wall Street is.

      • When there is will, there is a way. And the way is, in that case, setting up a higher goal, that, at it’s height, it requires for that thing to disappear. Think space, and think if current mindset would be allowed on that bigger scale. On a long enough timeline, it will be replaced with something better. I already have an answer, now you can use the imagination and find yours, and see if it’s the same 😉
