Californian secessionists have taken the first formal step in their desire to break away from the rest of the United States after filling a ballot proposal on Monday to the state’s attorney general. It could see the state vote on “Calexit” as early as 2018.

Hot on the heels of Brexit and a Trump victory, a group of Californians want out of a Trump-controlled United States.

Californian secessionists have taken the first formal step in their desire to break away from the rest of the United States after filling a ballot proposal on Monday to the state’s attorney general. It could see the state vote on “Calexit” as early as 2018.

Secessionist group “Yes California” launched the ballot proposal with the plebiscite question for voters: “Should California become a free, sovereign, and independent country?” with March 13, 2019, set as the proposed date for vote.

    With many counties and incorporated municipalities having junk bond ratings, and, be insolvent, or, waiting for a bankruptcy order from federal court (e.g., San Bernardino), one has to question the fiscal prudence of this. Perhaps, the pandemic corruption in California state employment, the nation’s biggest state employer, sucking the taxpayer directly, and through schemes that have led to one of the biggest gasoline taxes by localities, should be addresses first- cleaning one’s own house, as the mafia calls it.

  2. I think if California were to establish a state-owned bank (independent of Wall Street) as advocated by Ellen Brown they might have a chance of making a success of it. Otherwise I think you’re right – Wall Street and the IMF would bleed them dry.

    Insane. And how do they justify to the rest of the world to give them the resources which are now basically confiscated by the US military? A secession would mean the US gets aout 6 to 10% of all worlds resources, not 25%.

    • Interesting point, Michael. I’m not sure, but I suspect the initiative for this movement comes from people who enjoy little or no benefit from monopolizing these resources. Thanks for commenting.
