  5. I stopped driving about ten years ago. Just to avoid giving money to the oil, insurance and automobile industries.

    • My daughter and son-in-law also go nearly everywhere by bicycle. They used to do car sharing on long trips till his parents bought them a hybrid. It mostly stays in the garage. I haven’t had a car since 2010 and am amazed how much my quality of life has improved.

      • Same here. My life has improved, too. I’ve saved thousands of dollars and almost never sit in traffic jams. I occasionally get wet when it rains and it often takes longer to go places, but I walk more and use trains and buses. Fortunately, living on NYC, I can get anywhere I need via these three modes of transportation.
