Mystery solved. The US gave the Toyota trucks to al Qaeda, who handed them on to ISIS.

cia-isis-400x254U.S. counter-terror officials have launched an investigation into how ISIS got so many of those identical Toyota pickup trucks which they use in their convoys.

They don’t have to look very far …

The Spectator reported last year:

The [Toyota] Hilux [pics] is light, fast, manoeuvrable and all but indestructible (‘bomb-proof’ might not, in this instance, be a happy usage).  The weapons experts Jane’s claimed for the Hilux a similar significance to the longbows of Agincourt or the Huey choppers of Nam. A US Army Ranger said the Toyota sure ‘kicks the hell out of a Humvee’ (referring to the clumsy and over-sized High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle made by AM General).

The fact is the Toyotas were supplied by the US government to the Al Nusra Front as ‘non-lethal aid’ then ‘acquired’ by ISIS.

      • Yes, but effective. Fabricate an enemy to stay in business and justification of self, thereby gaining public consent for brutality. It doesn’t matter, they are going to do whatever they want anyway until confronted by a more powerful entity. Still want that Toyota, I don’t need a military expert to know they are good. OK kidding, the Toy’s are good but I prefer Scooters/Motorcycles that get better than 80MPG. Regards, …O.

    • Very interesting to learn the trucks were modified for special forces. How convenient. If we’re going to talk about tyrannical brutality, it’s a high time to shine more of a spotlight on the Saudi Royal family. They’re about a million times worse than Assad – and a far bigger threat to the West.

  2. The American bombing campaign against ISIS is so ineffective that it is being criticized by American politicians. My belief is that ISIS has been a U.S. tool to keep everyone in the Gulf on their feet; both allies like Saudi Arabia and Iran/Syria. Instead of regime change in Syria they are getting a muscular response from Russia which is solidifying its partnerships in the region.

    • As far as I can see, PeaceFrog, there is growing consensus that ISIS has been a US tool right along to justify a continued US presence in the Middle East. I’ve been particularly interested in the recent meetings between Putin and the Saudi King. They met again last week and suddenly Saudi’s have reduced their oil output and the price of oil has started to increase (which benefits Russia, as oil is their main source of foreign currency).

      • I think Russia and the Saudi’s have a very ambivalent relationship. Their economies are both hurting from low oil prices, and this makes cooperation on oil output, at some point, an important issue for both countries. The Saudi’s are a model client state for the U.S. They still want Assad out, and the 500 TOW anti-tank missiles they recently supplied the Syrian “rebels” prove this is more than just talk. Russia has three main partners in the region those bring Iran, Syria and Lebanon. Washington seems to be more flexible on regime change in Syria. Is the U.S. using Saudi Arabia as a proxy to push for regime change the U.S. is seeking? Have the Saudi’s been pumping oil at record levels during the worst oil rout in decades to break the American frackers, or, perhaps as a proxy for America to pressure Russian geopolitical moves in Ukraine, Syria, etc.? I believe that the Saudi’s have historically served Washington’s interests in pressuring Russia, and even played a pivotal role in keeping oil prices low to help collapse the Soviet Union. The Saudi’s have powerful regional enemies, and, internally their own citizens are a threat to the Kingdom. They are a perfectly compromised asset for the U.S.

  3. Perhaps, the continuous stream of information will wake up more citizens to their government deception…

A tipping point of conscious awareness is needed to halt the current escalation of World-War.

    • Alan, it is actually a year old news that has gained new traction because of the discovery of the specific documents as more evidence of U.S. deception.

How anyone can stomach the rhetoric of “moderate” terrorists is still beyond me. But Washington’s Neocons seem to think their propaganda will continue to work.
How Turkey will survive a escalation of war and the demise of their partners the Washington-Neocons is a question I wish you could help me with.

    • The Toyota trucks were essential to the slick ISIS branding campaign – along with the slick professional quality behead videos – that was perpetrated on the western world to justify continued western colonization of the Middle East.
