It was the smartest thing De Gaulle did back in 1963. France withdrew its Atlantic and Channel Fleets from NATO command. Then, on March 10, 1966, De Gaulle began the withdrawal from the alliance and demanded that all NATO bases be removed from French territory. But, getting completely out of NATO’s command caused France too many problems with its neighbors. France remained a strategic partner in NATO without French participation in its command structure for several years.
I was not old enough to be cognizant of that, but I remember De Gaulle. Later I researched online and read what you said about the facts of his withdrawal.
The main reason De Gaulle left NATO was the assassination teams the CIA was operating out of NATO headquarters in Brussels. They made 40+ assassination attempts against him.
Hahahaha. NATO is a farce. The French are smart to withdraw.

Which reminds me of the movie, ‘Day of The Jackal.’
