An estimated 2.5 million Iraqis descended on Baghdad to stage a “Million Man March” calling for an end to the nearly 17 year-long U.S. occupation of their country.

People from all over Iraq have descended upon its capital Baghdad, heeding the call from influential Shia cleric Muqtada al-Sadr for a “million man march” calling for an end to the nearly 17 year-long U.S. occupation of the country.   1. The federal government is very sensitive to troop casualties, Katherine. Al-Sadr’s armed militias have caused many GI casualties in the past. That coupled with periodic missile strikes from Iran (which the US doesn’t seem to be able to repel) could cause the Trump administration to change their mind very quickly. Trump still seems to be the chosen Republican candidate this fall. For the US to lose another war in Iraq will not play very well with voters.
