Live from Nicaragua: Uprising or Coup? A Reader

Behind much opposition violence stood US regime-change NGOs: National Endowment for Democracy, United States Agency for International Development, International Republican Institute, AFL-CIO. Nicaragua-based NGOs, some funded and created by the US, also participated, along with Nicaragua’s Catholic Church hierarchy, which helped plan and execute some of the worst violence.

  1. During the oppressive Reagan years I headed a local awareness and help group called simply, “Central America Friendship Committee.” It saddens me, if I could be saddened any deeper, that people in the Anglo-American empire learn nothing and know nothing about the national neighbours, or how their multi-nationals and government treats them. The USA (American) side of this monstrous murderous empire has time and again shown its true colours, its hypocrisy and lies, yet the people continue to support the empire. They continue to vote for individuals who funding for bombs and bullets ahead of their own well-being and that of their children, therefore how could they even begin to care about non-nationals? Fortunately for the world Trump’s sanctions are sucking the life-blood out of the tax payers who fund the military and maintain what’s left of their own infrastructure, so the end of the empire is in sight. May Herr Trump get another 4 years to finish his “great work” of dismantling the empire.

    • CISPES was a much larger non-profit than our little local committee but I remember a time when we had a representative of CISPES speak at one of our informational meetings. She also brought a woman from El Salvador who knew first hand what Reagan’s CIA Contras were capable of doing. As in the Middle East, the same nightmare imposed by the Anglo-American corporate empire continues in Central and South America. It won’t stop until the ravaging planet-destroying dragon is dead. Meanwhile most Americans (and Canadians by default) remain blissfully ignorant and unaware of what game of death is being played, as they were of the Vietnam war. Were it not for returning draftees the stories from Vietnam would be much different despite the fact the reality would not be. We live in a world of denial and propaganda (read: official lies).
