US Begins Airstrikes in Syria

According to NBC, the United States and Arab partner nations launched massive airstrikes in Syria against ISIS targets for the first time Monday, the Pentagon said. In a major escalation of the U.S. war against ISIS, the U.S. military plans to strike up to 20 targets in and around Raqqa, Syria — logistics, fuel and weapons depots; training sites; troop encampments; command and control sites; and headquarters for the Sunni fighters. The bombing began at approximately 8:30 p.m. ET Monday, a senior U.S. defense official told NBC News.

    • I guess too many people were marching against climate change on Sunday when they should have been protesting going to war against Syria.

Chalk up another war crime for Obama. Bombing a sovereign country without UN consent violates international laws.

Hopefully we can count on Russia and/or China to call an emergency meeting of the Security Council.

      • My sincere wish is that Russia and China completely ignore and forego ALL diplomatic channels since the U.S. does and just get to obliterating this shithole without any fanfare whatsoever!

…not to mention that I don’t know what the hell good marching for climate change is gonna do since walking is NOT what’s causing it!

      • Without American People’s consent, without congressional authorization, without evidence…
Merely making accusations in mass media outlets, holding a security council meeting with John Kerry as the presiding officer, is a scam in plain sight.

My prayers are with the People in the region being bombed.
My wish is to convene war crimes trials for officials implementing and obeying these criminal policies.

Assad’s gov is in serious danger now under the combined barrage from several national militaries led by the White House Club.
The question that will soon be answered, is Syria’s supporters (Russia, Iran, China and others) prepared to respond in an effective way?
Can the armed militaries be persuaded to stand down?

        • Good question, Ron. I note that China and Russia stayed away from the climate summit at the UN. It’s pretty ludicrous to talk about an international climate change treaty that excludes China. That has absolutely zero chance of winning congressional support.

      • Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani said Tuesday the U.S.-led coalition’s airstrikes in Syria are illegal because they were not approved by or co-ordinated with Syria’s government.

He also said, the U.S. policy is confused because it simultaneously opposes the militants while also trying to undermine the government of Syria’s President Bashar Assad.

The arming of one group of rebels to fight against the Islamic State group while at the same time encouraging the same rebels to bring down the Assad government is a policy that is “clearly nebulous and ambiguous at best,” he said, adding, “I can assure you this will not succeed in the end.” “This is a very confusing behaviour and policy.”

        “Confusing”, is putting it mildly.
What does Pres Rouhani know that has him convinced the U.S. has a failed policy?
Reading between the lines infers much more…

Everyone knows the Israel-U.S. Policy for regime change in Syria.
        How will Assad survive this?

      • Ron, the fun part in all this bombing is that Israel shot down the Syrian jet because it strayed over the border! Now we can’t have THAT!

Imagine if countries didn’t respect border boundaries …… there would just be lawlessness.
That is why all the countries of the world sit around a round table and create international agreements.

Without international law countries would just run amok!

Thank God the United States is a nation of laws and carries that respect with every bomb they drop!

  1. Hi Doc – why are we not surprised? Congressman Rangel introduced a bill today to re-instate conscription and institute a war tax. He said those who voted for an support never ending war should be prepared to support it with more than B.S. Regards.

    • I agree with Rangel. That way the sons and daughters of the politicians who approve these wars will have to serve. The poverty draft is grossly unfair – at the moment many low income people serve because it’s the only way they can stay off the streets.

    • The evidence the US concocted against Iran is also mythological, i.e. the US has been desperately trying making a case for nearly a decade to declare war on Iran. This has nothing to do with Iran’s nuclear program and everything to do with US strategic ambitions in the Middle East.

Iran has no nuclear weapons and is not developing any. All the evidence thus far is that their nuclear program is solely aimed at power production.

It’s not something I’m particularly happen with because nuclear energy production leaves massive waste that can’t be disposed of and remains radioactive for tens of thousands of years. Human error also makes nuclear accidents inevitable, with catastrophic consequences for the whole world, like we have seen at Fukushima.

It’s a great power Iran and the west couldn’t have had better relations over the last 2 decades. With proper dialogue, they might have opted for renewable energy, which is not only safer but far less expensive.

  2. Ron, the only way I see for Assad to survive this is if Russia and China step up to the plate – both diplomatically and militarily. There’s no way the Syrian people who elected Assad by an 88% majority are going to consent to a an Iraqi-style Syrian occupation and everyone at the CIA and Pentagon knows it.

    • Military weapons from the East would play the relic 20th century WW3 escalation card;
perhaps a more nuanced and effective tool will emerge from central banking…
Keep a sharp focus on the G20, Treasury bonds, currency exchange deals, and other U.S. debt servicing mechanisms. The fact that Australia, Germany, France, and UK has not joined the strikes against Syria is of major importance. A U.S. bank could fall and shake the U.S. economy, the digital age is so vulberable…

        Speaking of “military weapons”…
Is the U.S. firing depleted uranium bombs in Syrian and Iraqi neighborhoods?
Depleted uranium is in modern armaments and contaminates the environment, long term-generational hazards, birth defects, cancers and so much more suffering…
I would be angry to have property in those communities.

        This must be stopped.

  3. Obama will definitely face his day in the dock for his war crimes. If not in the Hague, in Malaysia or some other non-aligned country. Like Kissinger, his days of international travel will be over once he no longer enjoys the shield of presidential office.
