Net Neutrality – The End Of Google’s Biggest Subsidy

Lost in all of the theoretical debate about how evil ISPs will create a have/have-not divide in Internet access, is the reality that it already exists along with massive subsidies to the biggest bandwidth pigs on the planet – Facebook, Google, Twitter, Netflix and the porn industry. Net Neutrality took pricing of bandwidth out of the hands of consumers. It handed the profits from it to Google, Facebook and all the crappy advertisers spamming video ads, malware, scams, and the like everywhere. George Soros and the Ford Foundation are two of the biggest lobbyists for Net Neutrality.

Authored by Tom Luongo,

Net Neutrality is gone. Good riddance.

Lost in all of the theoretical debate about how evil ISPs will create a have/have-not divide in Internet access, is the reality that it already exists along with massive subsidies to the biggest bandwidth pigs on the planet ? Facebook, Google, Twitter, Netflix and the porn industry.

Under Net Neutrality these platforms flourished along with the rise of the mobile internet, which is now arguably more important than the ?desktop? one in your home and office.

Google and Apple control the on-ramps to the mobile web in a way that Net Neutrality proponents can only dream the bandwidth providers like Comcast and AT&T could.

Because, in truth, they can?t. Consumers are ultimately the ones who decide how much bandwidth costs, not the ISPs. We decide how much we can afford these creature comforts like streaming Netflix while riding the bus…

  1. Is there anything not tainted with greed and corruption… it’s so disheartening, and horrible. I saw on twitter that Sean Austin (Patty Duke’s son) was complaining his dead mom’s signature was on a petition in support of this. Mind blowing bad stuff. She’s been dead a few years.

  2. What I found really interesting is that there seems to be some kind of war being played out in the ruling elite – between the internet service providers and the content monopolies like Google, Amazon and Facebook. Soros and the Ford Foundation (and the CIA) are coming down on the side of Google, Amazon and Facebook. The notion that the Internet is free is a total myth. Not only do Google, Facebook et al have near total control over the content we see, but they collect massive amounts of data on us which they sell to advertisers.

  3. This is totally not how it works in Europe. NN means that my provider can’t make netflix stutter, which in turn makes his own TV service all the better. If I want national/state TV, they orient themselves to what netflix can do and try to become better. If Microsoft builds the streaming platform or not – I don’t care. But the moment is becomes normal to make netflix stutter but their own service is still working is the moment everybody looses. The moment data caps are not growing anymore is the moment this is reality. etc.

Quite rich to post a perfect example of a bad mix of prisoners dilemma, doom of the commons and sub-par, but inevitably “suffered-through because there are no alternatives” market failure as something positive on this site here.

  4. Michael, I think this author is expressing concern about the big monopolies these companies enjoy – in part to big government subsidies via CIA and other intelligence contracts. Unfortunately I don’t think he makes this totally clear.
