The current discussion about the future of oil is how soon will it be before petroleum becomes a sunset industry. If it isn’t already. Flat or falling demand. Carbon taxes. Electric cars. Renewable energy. Oil has no future. It is only a matter of time.

The current discussion about the future of oil is how soon will it be before petroleum becomes a sunset industry. If it isn?t already. Flat or falling demand. Carbon taxes. Electric cars. Renewable energy. Oil has no future. It is only a matter of time, although how much time remains is subject to considerable discussion and debate. Various prognosticators put forth differing view about when world oil demand will peak. Some say as early as 2030, others much later. Nobody says never.

As for actually running out of oil, that issue has run its course. At least for now.

  1. Meanwhile, more and more money is thrown at Departments of Transportation all across America to add more lanes to existing highways. When I lived in Minnesota, each and every year, they were adding more lanes to highways and traffic was a nightmare what with detours of off ramps. We will continue to add to Co2 until we no longer can and quite honestly, I don’t see this not happening anytime soon.

  2. Well all I can, Shelby, is good luck to them trying to persuade millenials to saddle themselves with new gas guzzling cars. Even here in New Zealand, which is somewhat behind the rest of the industrial world, the millenials I know who buy cars are buying second hand electric cars. Even the police, and you know how conservative they are. When we shut down the petroleum conference at the end of March, they weren’t very happy with us, but they were all over the electric car exhibit we held the next day.
